Puring shafts

For about 20 years I would visit my close friend and “PGA teaching pro” every two years for a high level evaluation of my swing specs. The end result, for the most part, resulted in the same out come, 2° upright with a 1/2” half inch added to the Project X5.5 shaft. Life got in the way and I got older and hadn’t had it done for five years. I started to doubt that my swing was the same. This last time, I let 4 years go by and I wanted to once again eliminate doubts about my swing and equipment. This time I wanted to get fit by someone that doesn’t know me, my game or my ability (now up to a 6 handicap). Simply look at my swing/results, swap out shafts and heads, then recommend equipment based on the results. After a couple hours, the science paid off and we made proper equipment changes (stayed with Titleist ) With all that said, I have a couple questions; for you that know about puring a shaft, or have had it done, do you believe a premium/upgraded shaft needs it? How often do you have your swing evaluated (check your specs)?

Fitting Results

Curious about others experience after several fittings. I have been fit for irons 3 times in the last 12 years, all by Titleist fitters, and all 3 fittings ended up with the same shaft. Odd that my first fitting recommended 2 degrees upright, but the 2nd and 3rd went 2 degrees flat after a rotator surgery and a regular routine of golf related exercise, confirming the benefits of a fitting when your health changes. I'm still considered somewhat of a hack, but I can say that whenever I get ahold of a club with the same shaft it just feels better than other shafted clubs. Also confirms my belief that the shaft is the most important part of a good fitting. Getting older now and will be considering inquiring about graphite next time. I use KBS Tour Lite and I hear that the KBS graphites have the same feel as their steel shafts. Will be interesting, and fun.

Fitting Experiences

This past week I went to get fit for clubs at the Manchester Lane Facility. This was my first time getting fitted for clubs and I wanted to create this thread to talk about my experience and allow others to share their experiences of getting fitted for clubs.

The facility was absolutely gorgeous even in the winter, and the hospitality from all of the Titleist staff was above and beyond. They made the experience feel so personal and it helped me ease the nerves. As a gear head I loved every step of the fitting process from trying different shafts and clubs heads to seeing the numbers and improvements. A special shout-out to my fitter Chris O'Rourke for such an amazing experience and comprehensive fitting. He walked me through everything he was looking at and made me feel confident with my new clubs. I ended up getting put into the GT2 driver and hybrid, GT280 Mini Driver, T250 4 Iron, T150 5-PW, and the new SM11 wedges. The new clubs are expected to come in two weeks and I am looking forward to taking them on the courses for the 2026 season.

Gripping down & Shaft length

I am trying to determine the dynamics of gripping down on the driver. I read that you can lose distance and gain control. But how much distance would you lose gripping down 3 inches on a standard 45 inch shaft. I have read different opinions…some say they hit the ball farther - better contact, would you get more swing speed (not necessarily clubhead speed). What would adding a bit more weight to the driver head do? Way too many variables! Thanks, sorry if this has already been covered.

Driver Fitting - Marietta Country Club

I went to the Fitting Center at MCC, although I'm not a member there, the head pro has been my and my son's coach for nearly 10 years. As I've mentioned in other threads, I was fit for a TS4 a few years ago at another fitter, not associated with Titleist. The TSR4 worked briefly, but I always struggled with it and to get any kind of consistent performance.

Told Brandon my issues, my miss, and he wouldn't tell me which head I was testing at first from the very first strike - Holy Cow! - launch, flight, feel - what have I been missing all these years? Even my misses were still very playable rather than miserable duck hooks that caused instant double bogeys. I estimate 4-5 lost strokes per round just because of my poor driving. This is literally game changing. Tested two more heads, each was good, but not as good as the first.

Then we started fine tuning shafts, weight, flex, moving the weight in the head around. Ultimately going with the Mitsubishi Tensei Black in 60g, stiff, with a GT1 head, 10*, in C4 hosel position. Did it magically gain me oodles of ball speed? Yes and no. What it gives me is consistency - finding the center of the face more and optimizing the performance I'm capable of. Rather than heel and toe (or worse strikes) and maybe eeking out a 220 drive which I can hit my 3 wood farther (and 99% of the time, tee off with a 3w), I'm where I should be for my swing speed and more importantly in the fairway, or at the worst very playable.

Thank you, Brandon and Titleist. Can't wait to get it delivered and onto to the golf course if the weather will ever improve.

Iron Fitting at Titleist Pinehurst Center

Has anyone had an iron fitting at the new Titleist center in Pinehurst? Is it a better experience than a fitting thru a Titleist club fitter (specifically Jeff ?, can’t think of his last name at the moment; has fittings in the Raleigh, NC area). Do you hit off the turf with either? Pinehurst is definitely more expensive but I’m looking for the BEST experience. Shaft offerings about the same? Anyone with any experience with either please chime in. Would really like to hit the new T series and see if they will benefit me. Thanks for all replies! Rusty

Shafts for fairway woods

Do you typically play the same shafts throughout your fairway woods or have them progressively heavier?

I was fit (through a Titleist fitting) for a GT3 driver with a Hzdrus 60g 6.0 shaft and a 16.5 degree GT2 with a Hzdrus 70g 6.0 shaft. Thinking about adding a 7 wood to the bag and wondering if I should stay in the Hzdrus 70g or move to the 80g.

re shaft t300 from steel to graphite

I've recently started playing. I have a fitted GT2 driver, but have been lucky enough to win a custom fit driver on a raffle site. I want to stick with Titleist. So my question is; would a GT3 be any good for me and if so can I use the original specs from my first fitting? Just for some extra info; I've only been on the range and in the sim studio so far.

Driver and fairway Lie angle

I was wondering if there is a way or a hack to get a more sprite setup for my driver/fairwy other than a longer shaft. “Back story” I have some pretty significant back issues and have a very steep swing. Play my iron at 3 deg upright. “Non back story” I’m in my early to more mid 40s and I don’t see me swing changing, old dogs and what not but still have pretty decent speed. Sand and Lob play at 2.5 deg upright. If it matters I also play my iron 2 deg weak.

Unsuccessful club fitting

Living in the Northeast, my golf swing predictably loses its form during the dormant winter months, but is also not helped by my constant tinkering. Two years ago, I could not resist a driver/wood and iron fitting at PXG during the winter, which was free with purchase of deeply discounted prior season's clubs. What I thought was a great fitting session resulted in clubs that I could not hit for my life during the spring to fall season. I spent the better part of the year adjusting my swing to fit the new clubs. The fitter admitted that his recommendations based on my swing at the time of fitting could be off if my swing changed after the fitting; he recommended that I schedule a summer fitting when I am in mid season form. It would seem to me that it would require a drastic swing change to be that off? It's confusing since the Trackman numbers seemed great during the fitting. Is this common? I am thinking about coming back to Titleist, but I'm concerned about having a similar experience. Would appreciate any feedback.

Crossover Between Driver and 3-wood

I am in the market for a new 3-wood. Looking at the TSR 2. I have the Ventus Black in my driver (TSR 2, 9 degree +.75). Is it safe to assume that the fairway wood version of this shaft would work for me, or should I just go through the whole fitting process?

Did the fitter determine what grip size you should use? I have been through a couple fittings (not Titleist ) and they always just asked what size I liked. Currently using mid size plus 4. Would like to verify that is the size I should use.

Fitting recommendations

I’ve never been fitted before and had a question about how club and shaft fitting works. Are the shaft and clubhead fit as a pair?

For example, if I’m fit into a specific iron with a particular shaft, but later decide I want a different iron model, can I assume that the same shaft will still be a good fit? Or does the head design change how the shaft performs?

Gt1 with 100-105mph swing speed?

Wondering if anyone could give me some insight. I recently went for a club fitting and it was a so so experience. They were right about to have a demo sale so there shaft and head selection was not up to par. I was able to find a shaft that works great for me, Denali red 50 5.5. I was expecting to land on gt2 and it was great, I asked the fitting if I could try the gt1 just to try as he did not even metion it, I hit it with the tensei 1k black and that shaft is not for me but the gt1 head felt amazing. I struggle with finding fairways and I couldn’t miss with that thing. I wasn’t able to try it with the Denali red shaft unfortunately so I am sort of left on a cliff hanger. Do I go gt1 or gt2?

T-250U 4 iron

I just purchased set of T-250 Launch Spec 5-GW with Mitsubishi MMT AMC Red 65 R2 shafts. Love the feel and launch of these iron but need a 4-iron for those shots over 170 yards. Project X Red iron shafts

Anyone try or been fit for these? I’m really impressed, was fit into the 6.0. I’m in Modus 105s now and it’s down to these two shafts. I used to hit the original Project X years ago, but switched to Nippon for a higher launch and softer feel.

If you have been fitted or tried these, please give me your thoughts on them. I like the idea of them matching up with the Project X wedge shafts in my SW and LW.
