710CB vs. ?

Hello fellow Titleist gearheads,

I have a nice throwback for you all. I'm currently gaming a set of Titleist 710CBs that are very very worn down. They were handmedowns a number of years ago and were beat even back then. I've gone through fittings, tried new sets and builds, and find myself continuing to come back to these as the dispersion/ball flight is always better than anything else I've tried or was fit into over the years. I've purchased and sold a number of iron sets over the past 6 or 7 years (rogue pro/T150/S-3, project x rifle shafts, DG120 X100, etc.) and have just always come back to my 710s. They have S300 shafts. The face and grooves are seasoned at this point, the "cool" rust circle on the faces and basically no groove left. What do you guys think is comparable to the 710? 620CB has always been intriguing but every fitter or store employee I mention them to instantly shames the question and shuts it out. How far off are T100?

I know a fitting is the answer, but from my past fitting experiences it just hasn't been it. Maybe they were bad fits, maybe not, but performance speaks for itself which is why I keep coming back to a 15 year old iron. At this point I'm hesitant to play anything other than what matches the same profile as these 710s (shaft included). Every set I've been "fit" into all ended up being overdraw/left machines (upright, longer length) and the left side of the course is hardly ever in play with the old faithfuls. My 710s are standard everything but I know you're supposed to "trust" the fit.

Sadly, finding a mint set of the 710s is basically impossible or else I would just go that route at this point.

Just talking out loud here, curious as to what you guys think.

As you are in Michigan, if you go to the fitting tab and put in your zip code, there usually Titleist Fittings at random golf courses within the search area you set (50, 100 miles, etc.). When last I looked, the flag was red and those choices came up first.

It requires a $100 registration fee that will be fully applied to a purchase that day. These Titleist sponsored fitters are “no judgement “ fitters. You bring your current bag, you hit some with your current clubs while on a Trackman. Based on that observation and your expectations, the fitter will explain a starting point. Throughout the one hour session, you should make sure why choices are being recommended. I doubt you will be steered away from CB or MB without first trying them. Other than gaining spin from groves, CB and MB forged designs haven’t evolved much over time. Hence why Titleist is still marketing a design released 6 years ago. They won’t slap a new label on an old product if they can’t make a substantial improvement with a next release. The new and improved CB with tech improvements would be the T100 irons. At $200 a club, getting an expert fitting for your best results for free is one of the best bargains available.

These are best options short of paying for a visit to Manchester Lane, TPI, or many of the Premier fitting sites.

When to switch to hybrids

Aging (50) has me considering getting rid of the traditional 3 and 4 iron. I have been playing a hybrid for these clubs and I really like it. Just kind of stings a little when you make the switch. I hit the hybrid much better though. Pride goes out the window if I save a few shots on the course.

I'm age 58, swing near 100mph with driver. ..... I've been carrying a strong 3 and regular 4 hybrid for 15 years. I've recently went to GT280 mini driver for 3 wood, GT3 5 wood for 3 hybrid, and a GT3 4 hybrid and could not be happier. I can get the hybrid out of the rough at 200 yards, where a 3 or 4 iron has ZERO chance in my hands. The days of the long irons are fading fast. Longest iron I carry is a 5 and I may bail on it for a GT3 5 hybrid with extra loft.

The switch to hybrids is driven largely by your clubhead speed. If you don't generate enough clubhead speed to drive the ball up into the air, carry distances will suffer significantly, and you will end up with more rollout than you should have with a properly struck long irons. To some degree, changing out the long irons for hybrids will launch higher and correct for that condition..

At 71, I'm there. I wish I was 25 again, and still able to hit the long irons as I once did - but ...

Aftermarket shaft in a 280 mini driver

I have been tinkering with my driver and mini driver. I have a GT3 8' head that my fitter put me in a Denali Blue 6.0 60g shaft. My GT280 was fit with a Denali Blue 6.0 70g shaft. Both stock playing length.

I have been tinkering with a Newton Motion 5 dot at standard length in my driver and my admit I like it.

If I wanted to try the same shaft in my mini driver, I assume I need a Newton Motion fairway shaft uncut and trim to the proper length?

Got fitted with Adam Lash at Breakers West a couple of weeks ago. Incredible experience with all of his fitting knowledge and techniques.

Just got them this morning and I can’t wait to try them out! Definitely taking them to Casa de Campo next week!!

I was surprised that my fitter suggested T-350’s for me. Bought the Oil Can finish and super happy with the clubs. High launching and come down soft

T350 Iron Experiences and Advice

I'm a high handicapper looking for new game improvement irons and have a fitting scheduled with Titleist this Wednesday afternoon. I assume the T350 is the most likely fit. I'm also considering the png G440, miz JPX 925 Hot Metal, and srxn ZXiR.

1. Would love to hear what others have experienced, good and bad, with the current/2025 T350s.

2. Would love to hear what, if any, others have experienced with the other models/manufacturers I'm considering.

2. Does anyone know what Titleist is working on for the 2027 T350/game improvement irons? Just wondering if it would make sense to wait for the 2027s.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I ordered a GTS 3wood, 7wood and a GT hybrid on June 10th.

The estimated ship date kept changing from July 1st to the 28th and finally the 25th of June. We’re now past that date and no updates.

I ordered this from the Titleist national fitting center after my fitting so there is no way to check the status with a customer service rep for a better idea.

What has been everyone’s experience with this?

Woods and hybrid delivered. 3.5 weeks.

Have a driver on a separate order and that is approaching 4 weeks this Friday. Patience is running thin right now!

Still hitting 712s

I am and have been for many years hitting the same set of CB/MB 712s (4-7 CBs & 8-PW MBs) with Project X 6.5 shafts. I have wondered lately how much of a difference the new technology in irons would make in distance and dispersion. Which current irons would be the most similar to the 712 MBs? I enjoy hitting both, but seem to like the feel of the MBs better. 3 handicap.

Thoughts?

I'll one up you, I currently have 710s in the bag lol. I've tried replacing them like 4 times and have ended up selling off the replacements and continuing to use the 710s. They're pretty beat at this point but they outperform everything else for me

GT1 fairway woods

Last year, when I did my T series iron fitting, I also ordered a GT1 24 degree fairway wood and it's been an excellent fairway wood for me.

I know that there may be new GTS-1 woods sometime in the next few months but with the price reduction to $329, I just decided to order a new GT1 21 degree fairway wood to replace an old png 7 wood. Can't wait for it to arrive (6 weeks before delivery, which is a bummer).

Now I can't help thinking about upgrading my TSR driver ...

I built a GT1 21* this year and it's been amazing. That head paired with the right shaft is so dang good. I don't know why I ever carried a driving iron instead...

GTS2 Numbers

Update...put the GTS2 to the real world test last night...played 14 holes..hit 9/11 fairways...and the 2 fairways I missed were at the end as was tired...so accuracy is a+...real world distance was better than my launch monitor numbers...250 ish on average and one at 260....the accuracy is what really captured my attention..the sound is also leveled up...it really is a point and shoot club..played a prov1x ball...I'm sure I can find a ball that would give me more distance and feel as good as the prove so please looking for ball recommendations...bottom line the club is legit and the setup GTS2- 9* 45" ventus velocore+ red S6 with the A1 adapter setting is for me. I also went with the 11gram weight in back and the 5 gram in front...I just hope I can improve on these numbers after my rotator cuff surgery...If you are on the fence I verify it is worth it...Ok for this 65 yr old...LOL

I played last nite and played 2 balls. I was struck that when hit one on the screws and then the second ball felt like slightly off and would go a bit high and right....same distance if not a few yards further than what i thought was the well struck ball... WOW...

Custom Shafts

Is there a way to order a custom shaft through Titleist that isn't one of their shaft options on the website? I'm looking for a Nippon NS Pro 850GH Neo. They offer the 750 Neo and the 950 Neo as shaft options on the website but not the 850 Neo for some reason.

I've been playing a hybrid for over 20 years (turned 60 last year). When I made the switch, there was NO ego in play. They are just so much easier to hit than long irons. I'm not a long hitter so I could use all the help I can get.

It's that old expression "work smarter, not harder". Hybrids and even my 9-wood call right into that category.

MY problem with the hybrids is, no matter what I do, I am fighting a hook. I play a blended set of titleist 200/150 irons (6-gw). I also play a gt2 4 wood and 7 wood. There is a good gap between my 6 iron and 7 wood. Instead of a hybrid i went with a t350 5 iron. This seems to work for me.

I swallowed my pride a few months ago and added the hybrids. I am happy I did. When my playing partners give me grief, I say “Freddy Couples plays hybrids!” I am 53.
