Smaller and more compact swing. Build up into irons feeling like youre hitting a wedge. Weight and hands forward at impact. A good drill for you, Hold an alignment stick with the club running the stick up your left side. Hit chip shots with this without letting the stick smack you in the left side, this will create a great impact position.

RE: Wedge chart

Hi have 44 PW, 50 gap, 54 and 60 deg. Also do you use it for PW through to LW?

The more you put yourself under pressure, the more it becomes the norm. If you can get through the first couple holes (because you'll never get rid of the first tee jitters) then you should be able to settle into your round. The last 2 rounds have been horrendous not only for me but, my playing partners as well. Granted I can't control other players, but seeing me hit constant bad shots affect their game?
I recently had bad rounds near the century mark but, just prior to that it was good before going south.

How do you all cope, I know some of you say go see and instructor. I am having good shots and bad shots. I can stripe a pretty good drive and the lose it on the next hole. Burn a 10-foot putt only to be 3 feet short on the next hole.
Just totally inconsistent throughout the round. Should I lay low for a week or do I just keep on pushing.
What do you guys suggest for a short term fix....

RE: Control, Alt, Delete (?)

I am a big advocate to a system of recording your misses. Once you play a few rounds you see trends. Are you missing fairways? Where? then you take that miss and work on it off the course.

These small incremental fixes will start building up and reflecting in your scores. Even if it is writing down on a notepad. See what is costing you strokes, and then work on it.

We all go through the Ups and downs of this fickle game

RE: Control, Alt, Delete (?)
Even into my 50's I'd shoot 100 free throws on Saturday and Sunday. I had many years I was over 90%. Then at 55 it started going downhill, slightly every year. My shot didn't change much, the feel did. Same drill as golf, the focus needed to perform at a high level is unmeasurable. I can't explain why I've been around scratch for years, it's a combination of variables in golf, too many to comprehend. (I'm very good with a wedge and putter). But it's actually quite simple, we can't repeat our swing consistently, and we get frustrated too easy!

RE: Ball striking

I had some lessons last year which improved my ball striking dramatically. Essentially by swinging up to shoulder height instead of beyond (felt like waist height) I was catching the ball cleaner and more consistent. You miss putts, chunk a chip, hit irons short, hook than push a drive because you get tight and timid.

Breath and tempo should be your only swing thoughts.

Other mental thoughts be committed to your shot, have a quick and consistent pre shot routine. Think about course strategy. Chip and putt to make it not the I hope I don’t miss this 3 footer mentality.

Committed swings to conservative targets.

If you’re in jail bail out don’t try hero shots.

Play the golf course and don’t press if you have a bad hole.

Have fun and enjoy the competition.

I played competitively since junior golf and I tend to score better in Tournaments than in casual rounds I think because I focus more on the things above. In casual rounds I tend to play a little loose and more aggressive and can make mistakes.

RE: Wedge chart

3 for each traj (low, med, high) and go from there

RE: Wedge chart

I"ve started working at a simulator that has both a target range and a short game range.. This allows me to work on different distances and different trajectories with each of my wedges and actually see the data associated with each shot. I carry T-250* (launch spec) irons 5-P, plus two Vokey SM11's- a 54D12 and a 60D12 bent to 59. My irons are all 2 degrees weak, so each is actually one club less than the number indicates. This means my 9 plays like a P and the P is actually a gap wedge. The latter is 49 degrees, not the "normal" 47 for the T-250* Pitching wedge. Like others have said , I don't play a full swing with any wedge, so my distances are 65 yds for the 60, 80 for the 54, 95 for the P, and 105 for the 9. I am working on the in-between and different situation distances. I've got a good feel so far for 45-55, 70-75, and 85-90. Still working on the 25-40 range, especially pitches. Most of those other distances are waist-high (club) swings with the club for the next longer distance.

RE: Wedge chart

Thanks for the replies.

Was chatting with a buddy the other day and he suggested that wedges should be 2° flatter than the irons in the bag.

Do you all have your wedges bent flatter? Mine are standard/off the shelf Vokey SM10

RE: Wedge chart

just swapped out the T100s 44* wedge for a 46* Vokey. my other Vokeys were 50* 54* and 58*.
I like the consistent look at the bottom of the bag

RE: Wedge chart

4 Wedges: PW, 50 bent to 49, 54 & 58

Instead of the clock system, I prefer to think 1/4, 1/2 & 3/4. I never take a full swing with the wedges.

RE: Wedge chart

I guess Im not sure what a wedge chart is... that said, my set matching PW is my 140 club, 50 is 125, 54 is for 110, and the 58 gets 90. These are for full swings. Depending on the situation, the 54 & 58 are used in the bunker. Anything in the fairway from less than a full swing with the 58, I start looking at whether I can let it run out or if I need to land soft and hold. All of those shots are based on feel. Usually lean on the 50 for a majority of those scenarios, if I need to increase height for a particular shot the 54 gets it, but usually only if I need to stop it quick.

RE: Wedge chart

Here’s a photo from Ian Fraser’s wedge matrix vid last year I use www.titleist.com/.../slep4kggpxt3v5pxfyie

RE: Wedge chart

3 wedges: PW, 52, 56
